Detectives followed crucial leads that took them through the villages of Kina Meru, Kiutine, and Kina-Duba, ultimately resulting in the arrest of the NPR officer.

A National Police Reserve (NPR) officer has been arrested in a joint operation targeting a gang implicated in a series of violent robberies in Igembe South, authorities confirmed.

The operation, coordinated by detectives from Igembe South, Igembe North, and Mutuati sub-counties, led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle allegedly used in the December 19, 2025, robbery at Kirindini Shopping Centre.

“The suspect is part of a larger gang involved in a brazen robbery with violence at Kirindini Shopping Centre,” said the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Detectives followed crucial leads that took them through the villages of Kina Meru, Kiutine, and Kina-Duba, ultimately resulting in the arrest of the NPR officer.

Upon questioning, the officer disclosed the location where he had buried an AK-47 rifle, which authorities believe was used during the robbery.

Alongside the rifle, detectives recovered a magazine containing two rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition.

Additionally, the officer’s official government-issued G3 rifle, along with one magazine, was confiscated as part of the operation.

The suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.

Authorities confirmed that the operation is ongoing as efforts continue to track down his accomplices, who remain at large.

“This arrest demonstrates our commitment to tackling armed robbery and violent crime,” said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“As Kenyans celebrate the festive season, we have intensified operations nationwide and will act swiftly and decisively against criminals to safeguard lives, property, and public peace.”

The DCI also urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting criminal activity.

Citizens can provide information anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI platform using the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp at 0709 570 000.

The DCI encouraged the public to assist in maintaining safety and security.

Police said the arrest of a law enforcement officer underscores the importance of vigilance, intelligence gathering, and community cooperation in tackling crime, particularly during the festive period when criminal activity traditionally rises.

Authorities have assured residents that operations will continue to disrupt organized gangs and ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.

The investigation remains active as detectives pursue the remaining members of the gang to prevent further incidents and restore public confidence in safety across Igembe South and surrounding areas.
